Future Squared with Steve Glaveski

Apr 7, 2020

Paul McIntyre is the host of ABC Radio’s ‘Medical Matters’ and has more than two decades of experience at ABC Radio. He is also a playwright and author. His book, Use It or Lose It, is a guide to remaining vital through mid-life and beyond.

While this conversation represents a slight departure from the usual fare on Future Squared, I figured it would bring a lot of value to listeners when it comes to both living a long and healthy life yourself, as well as caring for any seniors in your life who you may not be able to physically be with during this time of COVID-19.

We unpacked many topics from the book, including:

  • Why body and mind is a false dichotomy
  • What to eat for a ripe old age
  • Exercise and mobility
  • The connection between sleep, anxiety and neurodegenerative disease
  • Community and the value of a flourishing social life
  • Maintaining meaning after retirement
  • The importance of learning
  • Activities seniors can perform to ward off dementia
  • How we can engage seniors and look after them during COVID-19
